Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) was one of the most brilliant and visionary inventors and scientists in history, known for his revolutionary contributions to the development of electricity and magnetism. Born in present-day Croatia, Tesla studied electrical engineering and, at a young age, began formulating innovative ideas about electrical currents. He moved to the United States in 1884, where he worked briefly with Thomas Edison before pursuing an independent career.
Tesla is best known for his pioneering work in the development of alternating current (AC), which revolutionized electricity distribution in the late 19th century. This technology, which allowed for more efficient transmission of energy over long distances, won the "war of the currents" against Edison's direct current (DC) system. The adoption of AC was fundamental to the electrification of cities and the modern world as we know it.
In addition to alternating current, Tesla was also responsible for important discoveries and inventions in areas such as wireless transmission, electric motors, high-voltage coils (Tesla Coil), and even radiofrequency concepts, being one of the pioneers in the exploration of radio.
Although his contributions were fundamental to technological progress, Tesla spent much of his life in financial difficulty, and many of his projects, considered too advanced for their time, did not receive the recognition they deserved during his lifetime. He died in relative obscurity in 1943, but his legacy was later recovered, and today Tesla is celebrated as one of the great geniuses of science.
Tesla's vision of a world connected by wireless electricity and his innovations in high-voltage technology and magnetism make him an icon whose influence is still felt in fields such as modern electronics and physics.
